This fault is the result of lose solder joints under the GPU chip due to the system overheating over a period of time.
The fault can also be attributed to a malfunctioning component on the main board although that is very rare.

Blu-Ray Laser Repair
This fault is the result of damaged or failing diodes in the Playstation 3 laser.
Some of the symptoms can be the console crashing while playing games or no disc when inserting games or DVD's.
The repair is simply a case of replacing the laser/ components inside your PS3 drive in some rare cases the sister-board may have failed which does cost more to repair depending on the fault.

Most PS3 Repairs are to do with either the GPU or the drive failing however this fault is when no power goes to the console or the system will turn off during game play or simply just turn on then off.
This can be due to a failure on the main board/ PSU.
